This 1968 SS/RS Tribute Camaro exhibits a good mix of genuine Chevy cruiser and eye-catching show car. The Camaro underwent a complete restoration a few years ago. 90% of this was done in the US with the final details completed here in Australia. The car has had limited use in the last 10 years.
The body, which is totally rust-free, is finished in a dark blue metallic and is fitted with all the correct chrome trim and badging for an SS/RS. The exterior is set off with Coys 18" and 20" wheels, fitted with 235/40 ZR18 and 275/30 ZR20 Nitto Extreme tyres.
The Camaro's interior is black with black and white houndstooth cloth inserted seats, both front and rear. The steering wheel is an SS Deluxe and the auto shifter is the desirable Horseshoe shifter. The dashboard features a new Tic-Toc-Tach. The car is fitted with fully operational, OEM style air conditioning.
Under the hood it's show time, with plenty of chrome, polished aluminium, and a billet style accessory drive. Even the underside of the hood is finished in a class-A paint surface to complete the under-hood effect.
The bottom-end of the engine is relatively unknown, being built in the US, but the block's casting number signifies it is a 4 bolt unit. The crank, rods and pistons are unknown, but with the 4-bolt block and the quality of the other visible parts being used, I can only guess the engine internals will be quality components. I can state that the car runs happily on 91 octane fuel so i dont belive the compression ratio is very high.
The engine is fitted with a lumpy-idle hydraulic camshaft, but the brand and exact grind is unknown. The engine top-end utilises Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminium heads fitted with roller rockers. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold with a Holley Street Avenger carburettor on top. Ignition is via a HEI distributor, while the exhaust system features Doug's Headers feeding into dual 2" pipes. Engine cooling is via an aluminium radiator with an electric thermo fan.
The transmission is a Turbo 400, and the diff is a Chevy 12-both, fitted with an aluminium heavy-duty ally cover. Note that the differential is not a Positraction. The brakes are 4 wheel discs which are well set-up, providing the vehicle with a very good brake freel.
